Waiting on Wednesday…Death Prefers Blondes

39073399Death Prefers Blondes by Caleb Roehrig

Publication Date: January 29th 2019

Publisher: Feiwel & Friends

Blurb: Teenage socialite Margo Manning leads a dangerous double life. By day, she dodges the paparazzi while soaking up California sunshine. By night, however, she dodges security cameras and armed guards, pulling off high-stakes cat burglaries with a team of flamboyant young men. In and out of disguise, she’s in all the headlines.

But then Margo’s personal life takes a sudden, dark turn, and a job to end all jobs lands her crew in deadly peril. Overnight, everything she’s ever counted on is put at risk. Backs against the wall, the resourceful thieves must draw on their special skills to survive. But can one rebel heiress and four kickboxing drag queens withstand the slings and arrows of truly outrageous fortune? Or will a mounting sea of troubles end them — for good?

Welcome to a brand new year! I hope everyone had a lovely and safe New Year, however you celebrate or don’t!

I’m diving straight back into things with my very first instalment of Waiting on Wednesday in 2019 with Death Prefers Blondes!

I thoroughly enjoyed both Last Seen Leaving and White Rabbit so I’ve been anticipating Death Prefers Blondes for Roehrig’s writing alone but add that cover and blurb and the excitement is real 😍😍  The wait is almost over but I still can’t wait because this is going to be a riot!

Waiting on Wednesday…Red, White & Royal Blue

39862470Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Publication Date: May 14th 2019

Publisher: St. Martin’s Griffin

Blurb: First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations.

The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince. Alex is busy enough handling his mother’s bloodthirsty opponents and his own political ambitions without an uptight royal slowing him down. But beneath Henry’s Prince Charming veneer, there’s a soft-hearted eccentric with a dry sense of humor and more than one ghost haunting him.

As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. And Henry throws everything into question for Alex, an impulsive, charming guy who thought he knew everything: What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you?

Words cannot describe just how excited I am for Red, White & Royal Blue. I love everything I have seen about this so far. The blurb, the cover, the sneak peeks. I. AM. IN. LOVE. I TELL YOU.

This looks like it is going to be a disaster of the very, very best kind and I can not wait to fall in love with these boys!

Waiting on Wednesday…The Fever King

39897058The Fever King by Victoria Lee

Publication Date: March 1st 2019

Publisher: Skyscape

Series: Feverwake #1

Blurb: In the former United States, sixteen-year-old Noam Álvaro wakes up in a hospital bed, the sole survivor of the viral magic that killed his family and made him a technopath. His ability to control technology attracts the attention of the minister of defense and thrusts him into the magical elite of the nation of Carolinia.

The son of undocumented immigrants, Noam has spent his life fighting for the rights of refugees fleeing magical outbreaks—refugees Carolinia routinely deports with vicious efficiency. Sensing a way to make change, Noam accepts the minister’s offer to teach him the science behind his magic, secretly planning to use it against the government. But then he meets the minister’s son—cruel, dangerous, and achingly beautiful—and the way forward becomes less clear.

Caught between his purpose and his heart, Noam must decide who he can trust and how far he’s willing to go in pursuit of the greater good.

Okay so I feel like I have to have a disclaimer first….I have an arc of this on my kindle. However in my defence I am starting it this week and honestly I think I’m so excited for this book there’s part of me delaying picking it up so I’m sure it still counts as Waiting on Wednesday if only because I am waiting to get my own arse into gear.

But seriously this sounds so incredible and I was so happy to have received an arc so I look forward to sharing my thoughts soon. But in the mean time can we admire that cover? Because 😍😍

The three main characters in The Fever King are all #ownvoices Jewish plus every single character is queer, Victoria said it first:

Waiting on Wednesday…Amnesty

AmnestyAmnesty by Lara Elena Donnelly

Publication Date: April 16th 2019

Publisher: Tor Books

Series: Amberlough Dossier #3

Blurb: The revolution has come and gone, with Amberlough City striving to rebuild itself from the ashes. The Ospies have been ousted, and the very face of the nation has been changed in the process.

Now, a rising politician is determined to bring Amberlough’s traitors to justice.

Including double agent Cyril DePaul.

Everyone believes Cyril deserves to suffer for his crimes… except an old lover and an estranged sister. Soon, they become entangled in another web of high-stakes politics, underground crime, and personal deceit. Only the most extreme actions can save them from the iron reach of the law, before it is too late.

Cue heavy fucking breathing. I didn’t even realise we had this blurb even though I had marked it ‘to-read’ on Goodreads. Last I knew Macmillan had this pretty tame blurb on the books page on their website:

In Amberlough City, out of the ASHES of revolution, a TRAITOR returns, a political CAMPAIGN comes to a roaring head, and the people demand JUSTICE for crimes past.
As a nation struggles to rebuild, who can escape retribution?
Amnesty is a smart, decadent, and heart-pounding conclusion to Lara Elena Donnelly’s widely-praised glam spy trilogy that will have readers enthralled until the very end. ~ Macmillan

And then I find this blurb on GR?! I want to report an attack. LEAVE MY SON ALONE DONNELLY!! I WON’T STAND FOR THIS.

*me at Donnelly throughout the entirety of the series so far*

Needless to say I am so so excited for Amnesty and so so not ready. I absolutely loved Amberlough to the point it’s hard to put it into words and Armistice was no different. This series needs to be on everyone’s TBR piles. Gorgeous, decadent and oh so very good.

Also @ Tor: just so you know I know a gal who reviews books *ahem* 👀

Not sure what all the fuss is about? Check out my Amberlough review here and my Armistice here.

Assassins??? Lots of gay??? Fantasy??? Tor Books??? I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE HOLY HELL WHY IS IT NOT MARCH 2019 ALREADY!!!!!

So this sounds amazing and right up my alley. Tor has not been disappointing with it’s queer line up. The main character is ace/homoromantic and there will be multiple queer side characters, you don’t even have to take my word for it these are Doore’s!

Doore also provided us with info on just how gay it is:

Needless to say I am incredibly excited to be able to get my hands on this book. Is The Perfect Assassin on your TBR pile? It should be!

The Perfect Assassin is one of those rare books that manages to be both thrilling and tender. It’s full of rooftop fights, frightening magic, and nonstop excitement and mystery, while at the same time it’s a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be a monster and the power of love and forgiveness. I absolutely loved it from start to finish!”
